There are countless high quality concerts in Dresden/ Saxony in the holiday season. It is hard to decide where to go. Every week from Monday to Friday there is the Striezelmarktmusik (Striezelmarket music) which takes place in the Kreuzkirche (Church of the Holy Cross) right beside the Striezelmarket (one of Dresden's Christmas Markets). Choirs perform there, baroque music ensembles, soloists, organists and many more. I was very lucky to attend one of their concerts. The baroque ensemble of the Kreuzkirche performed cantatas of Melchior Hoffmann (1679-1715), who was a leader at the Collegium Musicum in Leipzig. His works have been mistaken for the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.
The ensemble performed using historic instruments. If you are interested in learning some new music, your can find free scores of Melchior Hoffmann's cantata here.
