GVAI: Thank you Brett, for being willing to share your insights about your tour and your experiences with GVAI's young singers! Brett: It is absolutely my pleasure to share what I learned on my audition tour; it is information I wish I had from someone who recently had the experience. I hope my insights, however limited, can help! Christine's Masterclass "Sing in German"at the CS Music Convention in Boston 2018 If you were at the Classical Singer Convention in Boston, thank you for stopping by the GVAI table and for attending Christine’s masterclass, “Sing in German.” Christine came back incredibly impressed with the talent she heard at the convention. Congratulations to everyone for participating - it’s hard work to go to and sing at a music convention. All of your preparation and hard work did not go unnoticed!
If you are a young professional singer, you may be headed off to a summer program or two to learn more about singing. OR you might be taking the summer off and planning to apply next year. Either way, it pays to do your research on summer programs before you pick the right one. If you are wanting to attend a summer opera program that has a focus in a specific language, you especially want to make sure it’s a good fit for your needs. For our purposes, we are going to consider German summer programs.
As we enter spring, we look toward Easter! Easter is one of the most important Christian holidays, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is held on the Sunday immediately following the first full moon of the vernal equinox. That’s why Easter is earlier some years and later in other years.
With over 60% of Germans being Christian, Easter is a huge holiday in Germany [1]. It’s such an important event that Friday to Monday of Easter weekend is a national holiday. (Four day weekend? Sign me up!) If you've been following Susan's German Audition Tour blog, you know that she is well into her journey! This week, Susan tries all the bratwursts in lieu of Thanksgiving, visits Christ Kindl Markets on Black Friday, and muses on how this audition tour has allowed her to work even harder on her music career. It's amazing the progress you make when the only thing you have to focus on is music. All that practicing will come in handy at Susan's upcoming auditions!
A career in the arts is one of the hardest careers you can enter into. No matter how good you are and how hard you work, there is no guarantee of a successful career. A former GVAI singer, Susan, is currently pursuing her opera career in Germany. We’ve been following her story every week on our blog. This week on her audition tour, Susan both wrestles with rejection and seeks out inspiration. Like the champ she is, she uses her rejection as a motivator!
One month on tour - On Heimweh and cultural differences Susan has been away from home on her audition tour for almost a month. Though this is arguably one of the most exciting times in her life, this is also one of the toughest. Susan is struggling with a touch of homesickness. But, she has accomplished so much in such a short time! Auditions, coachings, networking with agents… you go girl! Read on to see what Susan is up to now, including singing, being a tourist, and attending Halloween celebrations.
