Christine's Masterclass "Sing in German"at the CS Music Convention in Boston 2018 If you were at the Classical Singer Convention in Boston, thank you for stopping by the GVAI table and for attending Christine’s masterclass, “Sing in German.” Christine came back incredibly impressed with the talent she heard at the convention. Congratulations to everyone for participating - it’s hard work to go to and sing at a music convention. All of your preparation and hard work did not go unnoticed!
Can you believe that it’s already March? This means spring is just around the corner. Yes, that’s right. The official first day of spring is March 20th. As spring draws near, many of you are probably planning recitals, either for a school requirement or to add to your summer performance schedule. When planning a recital, it’s usually a good idea to plan your program around a theme, such as German art songs about spring!
This is a very short blog post today, but I wanted to share with you a transforming experience I had over Easter. I have been hiking at Cougar Mountain in the Pacific Northwest. It is such a beautiful place to be. My husband and I did not find immediately the trail we wanted to hike and ended up on Bear Bridge Trail. We were amazed by the green moss everywhere, several hundred- year- old trees, and early blooming spring flowers. I love to stop during hikes to look around to catch every bit of the beauty surrounding me. I stood there on a plateau looking down the hill into the valley, listening to the murmuring creek and the birds singing. It was a bit windy, too and suddenly my voice started to sing. It just came out of me very naturally. Nobody else was there, so I just let it happen. It felt so good, was very soothing like a meditation. Suddenly, I felt a oneness with nature, peace and strength. The sounds melted in each other and my husband, who arrived at the plateau, joined in. What a wonderful experience we had. We work as singers so hard on cultivating our voices. But in this moment, nothing mattered. The voice just flew out of me, it sounded beautiful, easy, natural, the notes were all there without warming up or technical thoughts involved. I realized, that it is all there. At a certain point, we just need to let it happen, getting out of our own way. The nature helps. Try it. I am sure, it will free you, too. Your voice starts to sing out of the impulse to praise the beauty of the nature. Did you also have an experience like this? Please share it with us in the comments below. |
