We can't imagine the holiday season without a Weihnachtsbaum (Christmas tree). In former times the tree was decorated with nuts, apples and other fruits. Only in the 18th century people started to use candles and later electric lights to illuminate the tree and to hang many different kinds of ornaments on it. I have always wondered how such a huge Christmas tree is placed on the Christmas market. Here is a fun video about the Christmas tree of the Dresden Striezelmarkt 2016. It is 23,5 meter high and weights nearly 5 tons (11023lb). The image at the top of this blog post shows the tree decorated.
