Here is what wikitravel.org says about our beautiful city:
Seattle, Washington, is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest. Located between Puget Sound and Lake Washington in King County, of which it is the county seat, and overlooking Elliott Bay, Seattle is nicknamed The Emerald City. The city is a damp green gem, with an abundance of evergreen trees throughout, and spectacular views of the Cascade mountains to the east and the Olympic mountains to the west. The cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, the city and its surrounding areas are the home of the Space Needle, Boeing's aircraft assembly plants, Microsoft, Amazon.com, Costco, Nintendo of America, Starbucks, T-Mobile, and the University of Washington, as well as a vibrant arts and music scene and an excellent park system. Applicants are responsible for their own housing. However, GVAI works together with American Homestay Network which offers a discounted homestay rate of $330.00 plus a $150 placement fee for the two week period. If applicants would like to stay longer, AHN can accommodate that by charging a nightly rate for the extra time. Please contact Angie Brown for more details and let her know that you participate in our program. Direct: 425-336-2859 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org web: www.homestaynetwork.com
Depending on availability, GVAI might be able to offer homestay grants on an as-needed basis. If you do not need help, please do not contact us for help with housing.
GVAI decided not to provide meals during the program. According to our experience students often have specific needs concerning their food because of allergies and food sensitivities and prefer to take care for their own meals.
The Queen Anne neighborhood has numerous restaurants for every budget within walking distance. We will provide a list for you at the beginning of the program. Food can be also preordered and sometimes delivered to the church. Microwaves in the kitchen can be used to warm food.
Seattle has a wide variety of recreational activities for evenings or weekends. For the local and Pacific Northwest culture, visit local museums, attend art openings during the monthly art walk, stroll the world-famous Pike Place Market, or spend a few hours at one of neighborhood festivals that take place each summer weekend. For those who enjoy connecting with nature, hikes in the Cascades are just an hour drive from the city; or explore one of the large parks in town or enjoy water activities at Green Lake, on Lake Union, or on Lake Washington.
